Double post, but let’s use the space to mention Tesco’s figures on plastic bag use since the charge came in……

I hope your Christmas bazaar handout went well Agwen!
It’s nice to hear that Meddon Morsbaggers is getting on so well, Cathapple. Great that you were able to lend a little hand on the launch pad. π
Like Offcuts, I was amazed at the number of morsbags made last month. Good work handing them all out. π
I remember when we visited The Green Place with Offcuts, Tori. The yurt is lovely and I had an interesting look round the garden. You had a super day, by the sound of it – well done everyone! π
Thanks for posting the photos, Tori and Offcuts – I particularly like the one with the ribbon-wrapped present on it. What a great idea for a “wrapping morsbag” π
That sounds lovely Zicks! I find animal themed bags are exceptionally popular. Happy bagging π
Do keep us informed about how you get on, and don’t hesitate to ask if you want to know anything (about bags, anyway…… π )
They’re lovely Stefanie! The new owners are going to love them π
Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!
I had some problems with my computer, Offcuts. Your reply wasn’t there when I started, honest!! π
I think you can repeat what someone else has said on Just a Minute – or have I repeated myself?
Hello Zicks, and welcome! π
Congratulations on getting down to business and making some bags.
Yes a glue stick really does hold a label well enough to keep it in place while you sew round it – provided you don’t wave the bag around too much before you sew. I get a good thick stripe of glue down the centre of the label – don’t worry about the edges – press it in the position you want and sew. I’ve never had a problem with the glue getting on the needle to any noticeable degree.
After a bit of practice you may well find that you don’t need the glue any more. If I’m doubtful about getting the label on straight I put it at a jaunty diagonal angle, then no-one can say it’s wonky. π
Are you using the labels bought through this website? They’re pretty good and I have no problem with them, and I don’t turn under the edges. Some we had a few years ago were slightly inclined to fray a bit but I just sewed them on anyway and they’re still there, only slightly thready on the narrower sides.
How lovely that your son got the message through school and you’re supporting him / them. Some schools have pods so that all of a class or a year group, or the whole school can have or make a bag. Some have lunchtime clubs or after school groups so that more children can have a go.
Which pod are you?
Thank you all! I think it’s down to longevity, as Offcuts writes, and small numbers adding up into big numbers.

“Whenever I log on in a morning and see who has added bags – I can guarantee that the last ones added just before midnight the night before are from the depths of Cornwall”For years I’ve spent a little time on most days sewing. It’s relaxing and I like to take stuff that would have been thrown out and make it useful again. We’re lucky enough to be able to keep the sewing machines and kits etc out all the time – unless we’re expecting visitors.
As Butterfly writes “Every bag counts”
Butterfly, my kids are all grown up – I can’t begin to tell you how much difference that makes! π
Less cooking, less laundry, less picking things up, no homework, no taxi service, a whole lot less talking required …… The list of things that no longer take up my time is endless – and we don’t have a TV, of course. πI’m sure they can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Pol & Joe started morsbags in January 2007, so it’s been going for eight (nearly nine) years.
So that total is doable, of course, if you can produce an average of 4 bags a day.
In January I pledged to make at least one bag a day for the year, except when on holiday, & I set up a spreadsheet to keep track. I have to confess that I managed pretty well, except for odd days off sick, until the end of September, when I was overtaken by another project and took almost a month off. Still, so far this year I’ve made 754 bags and today is day 317.
Does that give you a clue? π
I went to a convent school ……………. π
Sisters in Service are near Selly Oak, Birmingham and write “We are a group of ladies who want to help our local community” π
I was in a chain pound shop the other day and several customers were using their own bags. But the lady at the checkout behind me requested 2 bags – maybe she’ll bring her own next time.
October 18, 2015 at 7:26 pm in reply to: Have I Got News for You Explain the Plastic Bag Charges #4999Hi Offcuts. Sorry I didn’t see you’d written about Have I Got News For You and plastic bags until Krisaby commented. Apologies π
Thanks for the link, I enjoyed the programme – haven’t seen it in a very long time, and they did pretty well with the plastic bags section. I guess it’s a bit late now.
BTW, I sent bags to Jeremy Vine but didn’t hear any more…..
