Hi there Cranleigh Villages! It’s a great idea to see if a local charity shop can let you have unwanted materials to make into morsbags. We’ve had this discussion from time to time in the past and the consensus is that No, they should not sell morsbags, even if the charity is a fabulous one, doing marvellous work.

If someone who receives a free morsbag wants to contribute (and feeling guilty about getting something for nothing is a common reaction) they can be invited to donate more fabric or thread to help with stock for morsbagging, or suitable items for the charity shop to sell.

It is surprising how the difference in the transaction if you’re given a free bag, as opposed to buying a bag or giving a donation for one, impacts the recipient’s feeling about it. I use it to emphasise how I’ve put the effort into making the bag and giving it away, and what I’d like them to do is use it and not just leave it lying idle.

By the way, it can be surprising how many morsbags you can get out of a modest amount of everyday fabric. A single duvet cover will make 9 morsbags, a double will make 12 and a king sized duvet cover will make 16 or so. It’s a brilliant design, being economical on fabric and simple to make.

When I go to my pod’s details, if I put the cursor over the total number of bags that pod has made, a little picture of a pencil appears. Do you get that?

Then you click on the number, it shrinks to a different font and size, in a smaller box where you can type the new total, then click on OK.

If that doesn’t work, we’ll have to ask Joe on admin@morsbags.com as he’s the chap with the tech skills! πŸ˜€

Hi Grannygrotbags! Thanks for asking your question. I hope I’ll be able to give you a coherent answer.

You need to log into your account on morsbags.com

Then go to “Pods” in the line of buttons underneath the display of the number of morsbags ever made / pods registered/ bags made this month/ pods created this month. It’s between “Make a morsbag” and “Get involved”

You should find an option to “View my pods” to the right of the map

Click on it and you will see your pod’s tally. Click on that to edit it. You will need to do a little arithmetic and enter the new tally for your pod – the website doesn’t do the maths for you.

Type in the new total and click “OK” to confirm.

Well done on making another 10 bags and adding them to the tally!
    As you say, “Wahoo!” πŸ™‚

Hi Aggy and welcome! The way it works is more or less like this –

    * you create a pod for yourself on this website (keep a safe record of your password so you can log back in again later) or join an already-existing pod (helps to know someone in it)

    * You’ve ordered your labels – hurrah! πŸ˜€

    * Make some bags and sew a label onto each one.

    * Add the number of morsbags you’ve made onto your pod tally or ask the person who manages the pod if you’ve joined one that already exists.

    * Give the lovely bags you’ve made away to people who can use them instead of plastic.

It’s great that you’ve tried to hook up with local morsbaggers, but morsbags.com has been going for over 15 years and pods may no longer be active.

If there’s no reply, go ahead and do your own thing!

I love to take fabric that would otherwise be thrown out and make it useful again.

Hi Spowartann! Welcome to the morsbags forum and thanks for your question.

I have to confess that adding photos has become increasingly difficult as they can’t be posted to this website directly. They need to be held on a photo hosting website that allows open viewing by anyone (“The Public.”)

I used to use Flickr.com but I think it was absorbed by Yahoo’s mighty empire. It
became increasingly difficult and more expensive to use so I stopped posting photos. I don’t know if Anne Ivybags has a better answer, but most morsbaggers post photos on Facebook. There is a morsbags.com account as well as peoples’ own pages of photos of morsbags and morsbaggers.

I stopped using Facebook as it was absorbing all of my life, but that is a personal decision.

Can anyone else suggest a photo sharing solution?

Hello and welcome Grannygrotbags! (My kids used to enjoy that programme πŸ˜€ )

Morsbags has been going since 2007 so some pods will have come and gone, so I think your plan is a good one. If you don’t hear back from the pod you messaged, feel free to go ahead and start your own pod.

If you’re a sociable sort, then sewing with friends can be a lot of fun. You could mention morsbags to people you already know and see if any of them would like to join you. (This is how I heard about morsbags, back in 2007.) Other ways of finding morsbagging friends include putting posters locally in shop windows / noticeboards, articles in local papers or on local radio.

Good luck Grannygrotbags, let us know how you get on.

My reaction to a class of 30 or so primary school children to sew morsbags with is the same as yours – EEK!!

    Fantastic, Lindy Loo!

What a great job – and all your own handiwork too πŸ˜€

It’s lovely seeing unwanted fabrics repurposed and made useful again. Well done.
