Wow, that’s fantastic Tori! We laughed about people being so lucky on the tombola that they needed a second bag! I’m so glad you had enough spares available to help out.
Cool bagging! π
Welcome Lelly! π I’m so pleased you got and used your morsbag in Bude! I’ll be looking forward to adding your new pod to the list when I do an update at the beginning of July.
Grand work, Bude Baggers!
Lovely photos! I’m so glad you had a sunny day and a great turnout π
The bunting and signs are super, and I love the roses decorating the rails. What a great idea for the make a mark sheet – so much more creative than dull tally-marks.
Looks like a lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all – well done Bude Baggers π
Double post!
Meant to add, congratulations to all members of Bude Baggers on a great result! π

That’s fantastic Cathapple! I like the idea of laminating labels for ID badges. Did you add names to the labels inside the laminating sheet? How did you fix them to the wearer – safety pin/ lanyard come to mind as possible ways.
A long time ago I made ID badges sewn to a green backing fabric with safety pins sewn to the back, but they weren’t popular with the other members of the pod (this was in the days of Aggie Baggies).
Sorry you missed out on the warm sunshine by being in the bandstand, but if the weather had been true to form you might have been gloating about your rainproof shelter!
Well done on preparing all the paraphanalia for a well-organised event π Getting 30 bags made in four hours by members of the public is amazing – you must have had lots of sewing machines and loads of helpers! Fab-U-lous π
LOL Tori! It worked! π
Thanks for posting the photos Offcuts, I had a try at posting from Facebook and failed π
We visited the Green Place in Sileby with Rosie a couple (or maybe ?) of years ago. I thought the yurt was lovely and I enjoyed the garden too.
Photos are here –
https://www.facebook.com/pages/morsbagscom-Leicestershire/245913008776826?sk=photos_stream&ref=page_internalIt sounds as if you were satisfyingly busy Tori π and your Keavie is growing up into a lovely young lady π – no slumping in THAT chair!!
You’ll be on 1000 quite soon, I expect as you’re nearly there – will try to look out for it (or tip us off…) π
Oh, yes! π Of course! Wish I’d thought of that analogy! Derr.. *rolls eyes at self*
That’s it exactly, Tarragon! πI understood Gudrun to mean that she uses both these measurements for the fabric, with a bottom fold for all of them, so some come out “normal” style, i.e. shopping bag style so the bag is longer than it is wide and others come out “beachtote” style, i.e. it is wider than it is long.
These bags that Sazzie made are beachtote style –
If you took the fabric that would make a beachtote bag if it has a bottom fold and made it with a sidefold instead you’d have a normal bag. Your choice! Sometimes you want to keep the pattern the right way up on both sides of the bag, which is what we discussed a few days ago, and where sidefold bags come into their own. π
Hope this helps!
BTW, I love the photos of Mrs Jean’s pupils and their bags, Offcuts! π Getting the parents to source the material is a great idea = lots of lovely patterns!
You’re doing sooo well, Gudrun! I’m really pleased you and the librarian figured out sizes that will suit the children and the books they’ll be carrying around. π
You have about 13 weeks before the bags are needed, assuming term starts early in September, so 8 bags a week should see you on target! You can do it, I see you’ve made 222 bags in the 7 weeks since you registered a pod. π
Way to go, Gudrun!! π
I’ve tried searching for “jans morsbags” and got every morsbag ever uploaded in January! None with boxed corners though. π
You could paste the address of the photos in your next post and then we should be able to see the photos here in your post.
Where did you post the photos Janice?
I’ve had another look at the gallery on this website which appears via flickr.com. There are over 3000 photos in it, so I’ve looked for the most recent. Sorry, can’t find them. Then I wondered if you’d added to a facebook page’s gallery, but can’t find them there either. I looked on https://www.facebook.com/morsbags/photos_stream?ref=page_internal
and https://www.facebook.com/pages/morsbagscom-Leicestershire/245913008776826I know Bude Baggers have a facebook page too, but I think it’s set to private as I can’t look at that one.
When I tried it out I think I just sewed a diagonal line across the bottom corners with the bag inside out. Maybe my fabric was a bit washed out and floppy. I remember helping people sew morsbags at a craft event several years ago when one person started a fashion for making box-bottomed bags and lots of others copied them. π They make a nice alternative.
Hi Janice! Your story about bagging shop assistants made me laugh – I must try popping an extra (new) bag in my pocket to bring out after the same conversation – all my “own use” bags are a bit grubby with lots of use.
I’ve tried sewing across the corners (Boxing the corners) but found the bottom of the bag just sagged out from between the corners. π Perhaps I haven’t been doing it right.
*cheers!*
Well done Tarragon, you’ve made a functional bag! Don’t worry about the odd wonky label, we all have some of those. It was a good plan to start out with non-directional fabric. One thing I do if I don’t think I can get the label on straight, or if the fabric has a design that will show up any wonkiness, is to sew the label on at a bold diagonal! π -
