Quiltdyer, thanks for the link Those bags are beauties, and I like the embroidered labels too! You’ve been very productive in just 2 months. I love the one with the Christmas tree fairy – it’ll be very popular for wrapping presents.
Welcome quiltdyer! I’ve noticed morsbags being added to the tally by East Coast Morsbags 😀
I don’t have a machine that’s clever enough to do that quiltdyer. I used to know a lady who made morsbags for a while who did the same as you – and she also made plain bags more interesting with embroidered motifs.
Do you have some photos to show us? You’ll need to upload the photos to a website like flickr.com (which is the one I use, others may work as well). Or do you use facebook? There’s a big presence of morsbaggers on there. If you do you could paste a link for us to see them.
Thank you Agwen! I think I can see an increase in additions to the tally. Next month’s stats may be interesting. 😉
It’s only a month, Tori! Everyone’s doing brilliantly so far, and additions of morsbags to the tally are coming fast! 🙂
Congratulations quiltdyer!
Don’t worry, the labels have said “morsbags.com” ever since morsbags was founded, that’s over eleven years and almost 300,000 bags. I had heard that Pol and Joe are in the process of changing gradually to “morsbags.org” to better reflect the movement’s non-profit status. So you’re ahead of the rest of us, I didn’t know the next batch of labels showing the new address are a reality already! 🙂
I can’t see everyone’s hard work – and none harder than the founders’ – being thrown away for lack of a little re-direction. I’d be happy to bet the farm on morsbags.com being a valid address to reach the morsbags website for the foreseeable future.
I do the same. My “craft room” is a corner of the kitchen, originally intended as a dining area. Now it is jammed with sewing stuff, but I find it’s easiest to leave everything out and available to make bags (or do other sewing) at odd moments.
Thanks for giving the name of the tape that does work Sandra. I made a bag yesterday (day 2 of Sewvember) that has black tape handles but it wasn’t the polypropylene stuff, but a more pliable cotton-like tape about 1″ wide. I think my stash of it is used up now. You’re right, it makes bag production miles quicker as you don’t have to fold and sew handles.
You may find making morsbags addictive, Sandra! 😉
Have you added the bags you’ve made to the global tally? Everyone’s bags have more impact collectively and that’s how a worldwide movement is born.
Day one is ending (in the UK, anyway) and so far 397 bags have been added to the global tally.
Here are Tracy’s TOP TIPS for a Bagathon Challenge
* get a bunch of bags cut out and pre-ironed, pre labelled is a bonus
* keep your machine, bag pile, labels etc out and ready to sew if you have space
* a variety of fabrics helps to avoid getting bored with doing the same fabric over and over – maybe have a mix and match swap session with your fellow bagmakers
* stick to one colour of thread and wind a bunch of bobbins before you start. If you run out of bobbin thread you can just pop a fresh one in without unthreading the whole machine
Thanks to Tori, Barbara, Lynda, Liz and everyone who has shared their top tips for churning out a bunch of morsbags for a challenge like this.********* PLEASE JOIN IN *********
The more morsbags made and gifted the fewer plastic bags will be needed.
Any number of bags you can produce will make a difference, especially coming up to such a busy shopping period. So if you won’t have time to make a full 30 morsbags that’s fine, join in anyway 🙂
If you’re short of time you could be a MORSBAG SEWVEMBER WEEKENDER, there are 8 weekend days in November so that would be 8 more morsbags – hooray!
Thank you Daryl
Hello Daryl! Many apologies to you! If it’s any consolation my errors usually consist of listing a pod twice. It’s quite difficult to check as the lists get longer and longer and I have to scroll up and down to check if I’ve listed this one, or that one. I’ll add you in a moment, and you get an extra mention here too!
I see you’ve just added another grand haul of morsbags today as well, I’ll do my best not to leave you off the roll of honour for September.
And if anyone else spots a mistake in the lists, please do let me know! They’re not easy to compile and errors are not uncommon. *blush*
Thank you Sarah!
We went to Coastal Valley again in each of the last two weeks, finding different campers every time. We made nine bags on 23rd AugustRecently I’ve been amusing myself appliqueing different motifs onto plain bags, using gorgeous curtain fabric samples which are too small and stiff to make into bags. The ones with cat motifs were very popular!
And we made fourteen bags this week. We met several more lovely families with children of all ages. I was amazed by the concentration displayed by the first customer of the week, a little three year old who turned the handle for her mum who did the steering. She was a bit cautious at first (good idea!) but soon got the hang of it and was brilliant at stopping immediately when required. I find that most really small children get bored before the bag is complete, but this little one was still engaged and interested right to the end.

We were too busy to take many photos until we had nearly finished our session, but I did manage this snap of one happy camper, a member of the last family of the day to sew.
Fortunately, we didn’t encounter any more reckless drivers on Cornwall’s narrow twisting lanes, so had no more near-death experiences while travelling to Newquay!
You could meet up for a little sewing together!
