Here’s some good news, even if it did take the introduction of a 5p per bag charge to achieve it!

Wouldn’t it be great if ALL shops charged for plastic bags.

Great news. People are getting used to taking a bag out with them. When handing out bags people have told me that they now use bags for life, which is good in as much as they are reused, but they are still plastic. It comes as a shock to some people when I point this out to them. Does anyone know if these bags are recyclable?

Don’t think so. They are woven plastic. Beattie, thats why I don’t think our work is done. If Morocco can have a complete ban so can we.

Lidl’s bags are woven polypropylene, others use a different plastic (polyethylene) which is widely recycled. Polyethylene bags for life are thicker than single use bags. I believe they can be recycled, https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/carrier-bags
but we believe it’s better to use a non-plastic bag like a morsbag. Mind you, I still have a few woven polypropylene and thick polyethylene bags from before we heard about morsbags!

The Radio 4 programme ‘More or Less’ discussed the drop in plastic bag use this week. It’s the first item a few minutes in.

Its not a full year until october but at least they are drawing attention to the drop. I told you 5p would be enough!
