I thought we should do something to acknowledge the charge for some plastic carrier bags.

Something we haven’t done very much in our area is make morsbags out of pillowcases. I have always thought they are not quite as strong as ones made with curtains, duvet covers etc. We don’t actively ask for them to be donated so we don’t get very many and if we do the Brocks Hill morsbaggers tend to pass them on to a lady who makes hedgehog beds out of them.

But I think I have been wrong there. I made the morsbag below in 7.5 minutes and I think I could get it down to 5 minutes. The events haven’t really been finalised yet but I am thinking of a pop up speed morsbag shop where people could bring their pillowcases and make 8 for their supermarket shopping.

I am hoping to have a trial run at Sew Sociable in Leicester this friday so watch this space as they say!!

I find pillowcases a gift for speedy morsbag making too. I weed out the very worn out ones though…… 😕

Chop off the top for handles & put them in, add a label, resew the seams = done!

Good luck with the pop-up pillowcase morsbag workshops Offcuts 😀

Thank you Beattie. Yes obviously avoid the very worn one’s. One of our morsbaggers doubles bedding bags which seems to help.

Somehow they are not as rewarding as normal bags to my mind, but I have no idea why.

Maybe it feels a bit like cheating to have the bag half done when you start?

I have made a couple of bags out of pillowslips. As you say it feels a bit like cheating but why not, it is the same material as the duvet.

I’ve just made a few bags this afternoon out of pillowcases – love the speediness! Our bags are always double seamed for strength, so pillowcase are sewn all the way round the bag. I always sort pillowcases carefully and only use ones that are barely used, so the fabric’s good and strong.

Dunno why people think it’s cheating, we all use duvets etc that have some seams in place – and anywaythe point is to make as many bags as possible, ready for handing out!

I was looking to see if there’s going to be a unified morsbags response to the introduction of the levy in october – we’re building up a stash of bags ready to do a big handout outside one of the supermarkets in Bude on the day it comes in.

That’s an interesting thought. I wonder what the reaction of the shoppers would be.

What a great idea, Cathapple! We have quite a stash as I’m still making at least one bag almost every day. I’ve given some away but there are still plenty left.

Yes, I enjoy making pillowslip morsbags. Cathapple, that is a great idea to catch people on the first day.
