Its all happening at Waitrose Market Harborough! Harborough Hitbags have been chosen for the monthly green token scheme that Waitrose. Freda and I went to see how things were going, today being the final day of the month. It was fantastic to see us there. Thank you Waitrose!
We are in the middle box and as you can see very close with third and second places!
Close up about morsbags

Later tonight the results will be in!
July 31, 2014 at 9:55 pm #2852We don’t shop in Waitrose – the nearest one is about a 90 minute drive away, but I’ve seen similar “green token” collections in ASDA.
I just LOVE the Morsbagometer, and the lovely information with it (“beloved animals”… made me smile).
Harborough Hitbags would be able to buy lots and lots of labels with their winnings. 😀 Is the “pot” divided or does it all go to the first placed good cause?
Please keep us posted…. 🙂
August 1, 2014 at 10:39 pm #2858£1000 is divided proportionally be weight Beattie. So my guess would £420, £320, £260 but I’ll let you know the official amount! Harborough Hitbags actually have free labels (Leicestershire labels are sponsored by the Lions)but they have printing costs, t-shirts, threads etc so it will come in very useful!
Truro Waitrose 2015?!

August 2, 2014 at 11:25 am #2861Well that will come in jolly handy!! 😀
I think I’m going to stick to shopping in a combination of local village shops, Tesco Extra, Morrisons and Lidl as they all have their strong points. I hate going into Truro and the new Waitrose is going to be on the outskirts of the other side of the town, so not at all convenient for where we live. Maybe we’ll go occasionally, when it opens. We called into Waitrose at Saltash when we were bagging at Cotehele a couple of years ago & stayed at the Travelodge opposite – it was a new experience to be called “Madam” and “Sir”! 😀
August 2, 2014 at 7:49 pm #2865What a marvellous coup this is for you Offcuts. I think it is a splendid achievement and just love the Morsbagometer. When people are involved in such a clever and witty way their enthusiasm is whipped up. No wonder you get so many converts. Brilliant.
August 3, 2014 at 3:01 am #2868Thank you Krisaby but all credit goes to Mary Danks from Harborough Hitbags. She did a shopping pack using morsbags and Elaine really liked what we are doing. I met the ladies from Waitrose at HH’s 5000 bags party. Elaine is fantastically enthusiastic about morsbags and by making one for every director of every Waitrose she is actively drawing their attention to our campaign. I just had to sort out how the money was going to get to Harborough Hitbags, and I am looking forward to finding out how much their share will be.:-)
August 3, 2014 at 5:44 am #2870I think you are being modest again Offcuts but a very special Well Done to Mary Danks who sounds to be a very special treasure and also well done to Elaine for appreciating the morsbag campaign. You are all brilliant and lovely people.
August 3, 2014 at 2:36 pm #2879I agree, Elaine’s doing a brilliant job! Well done, Elaine!! 😀
And great spadework by Mary too. Super work, Mary! 😀
And great sorting out of the details by Offcuts too! Well done,
Off(organisation)cuts!August 7, 2014 at 7:22 pm #2895Well the results are in. £245 will be finding its way to the Harborough Hitbag Pod shortly. We were delighted to do a little something for such a wonderful and worthy cause. Spoke to another branch today who wanted more info and are looking at setting up a pod, with a further branch also requesting info, the word is spreading. Fingers crossed. Thank you all for your kind feedback. With anything like this, it is teamwork. We have a number of partners sewing away to help reach our target, currently bags made – 133, still long way to go as new branches keep opening… Thanks once again to the lovely ladies at Harborough Hitbags and to Rosie for her support and encouragement. Would also like to thank my fellow partner, Julia as it is a project we are running jointly! Happy sewing one and all Elaine x
August 8, 2014 at 2:06 pm #2898That’s lovely news, thank you Elaine! 😀 Well done, Harborough Hitbag Pod, I’m sure you’ll spend it wisely 😀
It’s good to hear that other Waitrose stores are hearing about morsbags and want to get involved too.
August 8, 2014 at 6:28 pm #2899Woopee!! £245 is a fantastic result. Great news about the other branches who are interested.
133 is a great total so far!
I picked up one of the green token forms today. I thought I would apply to Oadby Waitrose. I have 12 Brothers to be serviced and it would be good if I didn’t have to sell the family silver!!
August 8, 2014 at 9:41 pm #2902😀
Sounds like a plan! Those 12 trusty machines must take some looking after.
August 8, 2014 at 9:48 pm #2903Well done team Harborough.
Excellent idea OffcutsAugust 9, 2014 at 2:33 pm #2904They do very well considering how much they are used. We keep 4 at our morsroom, Butterfly has 2 to use at her family friendly pod meetings, mrs So Bags has one – she does lots of morsbagging at home and we have 5 to use at events. We are so lucky to have the amazing Supreme Sewing Machines Steve to look after them but he has to put food on his table! We do send a lot of oeople to him to have their machines serviced and buy a brother so it works out very well.
August 9, 2014 at 6:40 pm #2906When I first read this thread, I sussed out what the green token experiment was about but decided I’d best look it up to fully understand the details (anyone else not familiar with it? http://www.waitrose.com/content/waitrose/en/home/inspiration/community_matters.html ). What a marvelous program! My favorite part? That one group doesn’t win the whole kitty but splits according to votes. Way to go Harborough Hitbag Pod!
