We are in the sad situation that for the first time in 29 years we don’t have any kitkats. Freddie died of renal failure a couple of weeks ago. He was such a little character and we miss him immensely. He was very intelligent. I taught him to say ‘yum-yum’ when he was hungry and purring! So it is an end of the persian era because we disagree how they are bred to have extremely flat faces, their noses virtually non-existent.
With a bit of research I discovered that British Long-haired and British Shorthaired were beautiful and robust cats. We have reserved a longhaired blue and he will be arriving on the 24th May. Hopefully we shall also have a long-haired girl and 2 shorthaired later in the year. Yes I know that makes 4! Graham’s idea! Here is a photo of our first kitten. We have been able to give him his pedigree name Blue Moon. Here is the latest photo aged 2 1/2 weeks
March 10, 2014 at 1:44 pm #2138How absolutely gorgeous! You will have lots of fun with him. I am so sorry you have lost your Freddie. I know he is irreplaceable but Blue Moon looks to me like he will keep your mind off Freddie at least. My neighbour is a great fan of cats and we have all the fun of them without having to feed them and worry about them when we go out. Towards the end of her life their lovely ginger Daisy used to come round and sleep in our airing cupboard, warm and cosy and she couldn’t be disturbed by the other two bouncy cats next door! After Daisy died they didn’t get another kitten as they thought the two established cats might not accept a new kitten. You will have your work cut out with four – especially when they have that mad time in the evening when they dash all over the house and create havoc. Looking forward to regular bulletins – please. Daisy, by the way, was rescued by Anne and John’s daughter when she was walking along by the canal in Chelmsford. She heard a mewing sound and saw a sack bobbing about in the water and jumped in and pulled it to shore and found the little ginger kitten inside. As she already had four cats, she presented it to Anne and John – who only had one at that time.
March 10, 2014 at 8:11 pm #2142I was very sorry to hear you’d lost Freddy, you’re bound to miss him – but Blue Moon is so sweet!! He’s got a lovely face 😀 I’m sure he’ll make a super pet & I bet you’re looking forward to choosing his companions.
Krisaby, Daisy was sooo fortunate to be rescued like that! I think I’d have called her Clover – as in “Lucky” Clover
March 12, 2014 at 4:44 pm #2145Sorry to hear about Freddy.
Blue Moon looks delightful. I am sure you will have lots of fun with him and his friends when they arrive.March 16, 2014 at 2:27 pm #2174Do you get to visit Blue Moon so that you can get him used to you? It could be fun while you are waiting – but perhaps not if Blue Moon lives 150 miles away from you!
March 19, 2014 at 11:24 pm #2200Yes we can visit him Krisaby. He is only 20 miles away in Northants. We are hoping to have a girl from a litter due on 24th March so we shall visit after that. He will be in the ‘nursery’ until he has had his first jab then he will go down to the rest of the house with all the other cats. British Longhairs have only just been recognised as a breed in this country, not that that matters to us. As you know we had 3 Persians for 15 years but the whole breed has changed and they now have a short life expectancy. British Shorthairs and Longhairs are a very strong healthy breed. Here is a photo of Blue Moon eating his first solid meal. Its amazing to be able to see photos of him growing up!

March 20, 2014 at 3:25 pm #2203He’s just like a little teddy bear! 😀
