We did our first ever event on Sunday, as part of Bude Arts and Music Festival, held in the grounds of the Castle Heritage Centre. We were in the bandstand, which was a great location in the middle of everything, though we glanced longingly at the warm sunshine as we were in the windy shade!
we made publicity sheets, id tags (out of laminated morsbags labels, so it was easy to spot who was a morsbagger!), banners, bag kits, etc, and decorated the bandstand with bunting and banners.
We were really busy, and during the 4 hour session we handed out over 200 bags, i had various offers of fabric, about 40 kits were handed out for people to take away and make, and 30 bags were made by the public on the day. I made a “make a mark” sheet, so we could count up how many bags were made, which worked really well. It was really worthwhile, and a good learning curve for any future events. I also have 4 new members of Bude Baggers (people who came along to the event) so altnough all the preparation was very time consuming, and the day was tiring, it was a great day!
June 15, 2015 at 11:03 pm #4522That’s fantastic Cathapple! I like the idea of laminating labels for ID badges. Did you add names to the labels inside the laminating sheet? How did you fix them to the wearer – safety pin/ lanyard come to mind as possible ways.
A long time ago I made ID badges sewn to a green backing fabric with safety pins sewn to the back, but they weren’t popular with the other members of the pod (this was in the days of Aggie Baggies).
Sorry you missed out on the warm sunshine by being in the bandstand, but if the weather had been true to form you might have been gloating about your rainproof shelter!
Well done on preparing all the paraphanalia for a well-organised event 😀 Getting 30 bags made in four hours by members of the public is amazing – you must have had lots of sewing machines and loads of helpers! Fab-U-lous 😀
June 15, 2015 at 11:03 pm #4523Double post!
Meant to add, congratulations to all members of Bude Baggers on a great result! 😀

June 16, 2015 at 1:20 am #4525June 16, 2015 at 9:52 am #4526thanks offcuts for posting the pics. i made id tags by laminating square morsbags labels, then punching a hole in the top and threading tape thru, sewing the ends together, so they were like lanyards – cos it occurred to me that with a lot of people milling about there’d be no immediate way of identifying who’s “staff”!
we didnt have lots of staff, there were mostly just 3 of us sewing, we speeded things up a bit by us doing the first row of stitching round the bag, but the visitors did all the rest – we just worked non stop, lol!
June 16, 2015 at 10:18 am #4527Lovely photos! I’m so glad you had a sunny day and a great turnout 😀
The bunting and signs are super, and I love the roses decorating the rails. What a great idea for the make a mark sheet – so much more creative than dull tally-marks.
Looks like a lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all – well done Bude Baggers 😀
June 18, 2015 at 7:33 am #4533The band stand looks lovely with your bunting, and in such a prominent position for people to see you. Well done.

LesleyJune 22, 2015 at 3:10 pm #4545Brilliant work Bude Baggers. What a clever idea the Ring the Bell and Make a Mark was.
And – welcome Lelly!June 22, 2015 at 3:41 pm #4546Krisaby, I have put in an order for a bell!! Hi Lesley, so pleased you have caught the morsbagging bug! Have you registered a pod or will you be a member of Bude Baggers? Its just we like to keep a tally of morsbags that have been made. 🙂
June 22, 2015 at 4:21 pm #4547Welcome Lelly! 😀 I’m so pleased you got and used your morsbag in Bude! I’ll be looking forward to adding your new pod to the list when I do an update at the beginning of July.
Grand work, Bude Baggers!
June 29, 2015 at 7:51 pm #4574OOOOh offcuts! So pleased you have ordered a bell. That will be an excellent acquisition!
June 30, 2015 at 11:08 am #4583Will post a picture when we have it! I would like to have it in time for the Big Textile show in september.
June 30, 2015 at 4:13 pm #4593Why is it I associate band stands with wind driven rain??
Glad to see you have done better than that!
What kind of bell do you have to order in June for September delivery? Something modest about 1 Cwt cast in bell metal perhaps. Of course an ideal garden feature between Morsbags events!
MMM thinks, if you got people to sign an old bed sheet, rather than paper, you could cut it up and make colourful bags from it???

Ah-ha! I was wondering if that was on this year…… 🙂
