Did you see that employing reusable bags makes you more likely to reward yourself with a junk food treat?

The amount is pretty small though, and you can always go organic instead!

Perhaps this effect wears off when you only use re-usable bags, so no “special treats for a special effort”? What do you think?

Makes a nice excuse though – “I had a Mars bar as I used my morsbag”! Maybe not!

What a bizarre story! Who has done that research?!
Is this what the government are going to use as an excuse to back out of the carrier bag ban? To protect the country from becoming more obese, we have to keep using plastic bags!!

“The authors collected loyalty cardholder data from one branch of a major grocery chain in California between May 2005 and March 2007.”

They were using data from 8-10 years ago, or the research was done almost that long ago. I do hope the “I’m being virtuous” feeling has worn off, to be replaced by “I’m being normal by using reusable bags.”

I agree with Butterfly. It’s a loads of b******s . I thought the daily mail were doing a good job highlighting the problem of single use plastic bags and then they go and print this.

I have a terrible feeling that the planned tax on PBS May have fallen by the wayside.

I have just got back from a holiday in Wales where they have had a charge for a couple of years and i did a bit of checking out the situation. The smaller shops were putting purchases in paper carry out bags. Holidaymakers were still carrying plastic bags around. At supermarkets people were taking in bags for life (if only they were!) People told me they were used to not using plastic bags but interestingly I didn’t see many re-usable bags around.
